JET & YOGINI SHUBH VEER MAHASAMADHI
The phenomenon of incorruptibility, as yet unexplained by the normal laws of nature, is considered in all religions as signs of ‘Divine Intervention’. To have such an event occurring in a country like Mauritius is indeed something extraordinary. We have heard of ‘miracles’ happening in big countries of billions of inhabitants, like India etc. In Mauritius we have a tiny population of less than 1.3 million. We should understand our extreme privilege and luck to be witness of such a miracle in this tiny island lost in the vastness of the Indian Ocean.
At the Lord Veer Siddha Ashram we have the unique case of two such events happening at one place. The first one took place 28 years ago when Jet, a German shepherd, was removed intact after 5 months of being buried. It did not get the deserved recognition, most probably because it concerned a non-human. Dr Bhuwanee, government veterinarian was invited to witness the surprising occurrence. Jet had been the constant companion of our Guru, Yogini Shubh Veer for almost ten years.
Humans are known and receive credit for the acts they perform during their lifetime. Rare are those souls who perform acts even after they have left their physical body. Above them all are the privileged few who can perform the impossible after their death. The laws of science could not explain the phenomenon. The dead body should have decomposed within a month especially that it had been submerged after the floods from cyclone Hollanda. Since that time, Jet has been kept inside the ashram.
On the 8th of august, the Guru of Lord Veer Siddha Ashram Yogini Shubh Veer left her physical body. She was placed on a simple bed, in normal room conditions, without any means of preservation, coolant or otherwise. Her body did not show any signs of decay, any odor etc. until burial in the ashram premises on the next new moon day, 27th august. She had been lying intact for the 20 days after passing away. Three medical doctors certified this unique occurrence.
The Ministry of Health gave special permission for her body to be buried in the ashram premises. Yogini Shubh Veer was buried together with her pet Jet, at the very spot from where Jet had been removed 28 years before. In the meantime a shrine had been built there.
We are now having a ‘Mahasamadhi Shrine’ of two incorruptible bodies, Jet and Yogini Shubh Veer, one human and one non-human. This is indeed unique in the history of the world. The Lord Veer Siddha Ashram has made the area around the shrine open to the general public who will have direct access from the road.
Mauritius is somewhat like a microcosm of the whole world. We have deservedly got the reputation of a ‘rainbow nation’, a melting pot of all the different cultures and religions of the world living peacefully side by side, with mutual respect for each other’s traditions and ways of life. This miracle should now place Mauritius at the forefront on the international scene. It is like a Divine Nobel Prize!
Some ideas worth developing:
- The launch of a commemorative stamp of Jet and Yoginiji. It would serve to immortalize this moment in history through the postal system.
- The day of the Mahasamadhi of these two exceptional beings, 27th august, may be declared as ‘Meditation Day’. Yoga and meditation are practices which transcend the practices of different communities and encourage mutual respect for each other. It would be a fitting tribute to these two great souls and their miracle. It was indeed meditation which took them to the heights of spirituality.
- Declaring the ‘Jet &Yogini Shubh Veer Mahasamadhi shrine’ as a ‘National Heritage Site’ as a first step to have UNESCO declare the site a ‘World Cultural Heritage’ site, because anything less than that would not do justice to the scale of this ‘once in an era’ event!
