JET – THE MIRACLE PET
Twenty eight years ago Beloved Jet made us live through the most extraordinary event. She will defy physical laws!
Tragic moments stole her away from us. Five months after she was laid to rest her body remained intact hinting she was of no ordinary nature and belonged to the higher sphere. Her life, as her afterlife portends to higher spiritual laws.
Only bodies of saints and spiritual giants have been known since timeless past to preserve themselves irrespective of race or religion, clime or class. The latest was the case of Shri Yogananda Paramhansa in USA in 1952. Our nine year old German Shepherd pet’s miraculous preservation is a phenomenon of universal import, whether from a scientific or spiritual viewpoint. Her case is unique as a non-human. Never before in the world, is there mention of such an astounding phenomenon.
Dearest Jet is no ordinary pet. She came to me in special circumstances at a crucial time as a Divine gift. When no human presence could have been of help, she came majestic and threatening to protect her Divine Master’s dwelling. Unfailing in her pet form, her presence has been as ethereal as has proved her passing away.
Her body, years after is still intact. She appears to be in a state of suspended animation. Something astounding! None can deny the Divine portent of her undecayed body. Darling Jet had no ordinary life. After all, she was the life companion of a Siddha Yogini, sharing her life and meditation throughout.

Excerpts translated from newspaper article: The Week End of September 18, 1994
We are aware of those pious men and women of different religions whose body was found intact or in well preserved state. They are considered saintly persons. Jet’s story is unique, probably without precedent in the world. It’s the case of a German shepherd whose body was intact five months after burial…
Jet passed away after an operation, on 4th of February (1994). She was buried in the ashram courtyard, just a few days before cyclone Hollanda swept over the island. Five months after, the Yogini (Lady-Yogi) ‘received a message during meditation’ that the body of Jet had to be removed and brought into the ashram. On Saturday 9th July the spot where Jet had been buried was dug up. It was then found that Jet‘s body was intact. Even the orange cloth used to cover her was well preserved. Furthermore, there was absolutely no smell. Dr Bhuwanee, government veterinarian was invited to witness the surprising occurrence. Jet was put back in the hole pending permission from authorities to allow her body inside the ashram premises. This was done on the 17th of July.
The laws of science cannot explain this phenomenon. The dead body should have decomposed within a month especially that it had been submerged after the floods from cyclone Hollanda. Asked for explanations, Mr Prem Saddul, geomorphologist and head of department at the Mauritius Institute of Education told us: “Mauritian soil, by its geological formation is extremely permeable. Thus, there is rapid and easy access of water and also air, two factors which accelerate the putrefaction process. In such an environment any buried animal should putrefy within one month. Unless it is enveloped in an isothermic sheath and kept at very low temperature. In the case referred, I have to admit I am extremely surprised. This goes beyond scientific explanation! We are in the supernatural domain. This might have happened in polar regions, but for a country like Mauritius, it’s really stunning…

CONSTRUCTION OF “JET SAMADHI MANDIR”
The story had galvanized the Mauritian mind last year: the body of a female German shepherd named Jet, who had been the constant companion of a Lady-Yogi, was found intact five months after burial (WEEK END 18 SEPT 1994). A phenomenon which scientists couldn’t explain. One year after, the body is still in a very good state. Not the least sign of decay – not even any loss of hair….
Since, a ‘Samadhi shrine’ has been built at the place where Jet had been buried. The hole is still there, and has been covered by a glass sheet….
JET – love sublime.
a tribute to my eternal companion
Yogini shubh veer
Jet, it is difficult to say when you were not. You have always been, you are and will remain eternally so. My dearest Jet, you haunted my thoughts, my sleep, my whole life for decades.
On a frosty November morn Beloved Jet came to my room on the slope of Her Master’s mighty Himalayan abode. Tall, graceful, regal, her marvelous mane-like coat around the neck reminded of Her Mistress’ lion. She gave the impression of wearing an eternal garland that befits her blessed status. She roamed about, very affectionate and friendly and with all the ease of an old acquaintance. She came to offer me the warmth of her company, her eternal and precious love.
Nine years after, she would come and preside over the affairs of the ashram, her ashram that she came to consolidate thousands of miles away, filling into it her Lord and Master’s divine presence. To share our temporal life for another nine blessed years and create history of the most exalted kind. Born on the 4th of November, she came to me on a most auspicious day – the anniversary of my divine initiation, the 21st of December – a unique privilege indeed!
Your coming was most propitious and at a most auspicious time and your presence was simply superlative and most eventful. The uphill had never been smooth and your long awaited advent was our beacon light. The spirit of the place was transformed. Beloved Jet brought along my eternity where she will play an exalted role. She blessed us with her divine, dreamlike presence more than three decades back.
Her tiny presence was ethereal as she hobbled about. One would have thought a super-giant garden hog. She was indeed quite funny. Moving on her tiny paws she gave the impression of a huge ball of black silk. There was not a day that dawned without the loving silk ball, our little sunshine, moving ahead of time, to start the daily routine on time.
Jet would remain so until the end. Always ahead of everyone, reminding one and all that discipline is the secret of success and had to be meticulously observed. She was the sweetest task master but disciplined to the core of her being. She really is an embodiment of the great virtues that man strives hard to acquire. Unique indeed!
As she grew up, she was divinely beautiful. As if from another world, to bless our mortal life with her eternal presence. Jet was superb in her least movement and response, a real marvel-girl, extremely receptive to her environment. She was so alert, ever ready to share every moment and everything with all the sweetness and attention of the world.
Jet was Jet! Ever present, ever loving, ever sweet and ever ready to trail me; a symbol of complete selfless surrender! My most steadfast companion, she never lived in a kennel. Shadow like she would trail my every move, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, prayer room or courtyard, meditation sessions or initiations. I was her world and she would never venture anywhere unless to follow me and share my every activity. She was my living shadow. My own shadow could not have kept pace with me as she did. Jet would be ever present, the most prized and divine keepsake from my Guru-Lord to His devoted disciple.
Her angel like presence has remained ethereal. Even today, her physical or rather eternal presence is strongly felt. She permeates the very air of the place. How to forget the unfathomable love she showered upon us, love supreme, love unconditional, love purer than the purest of pure. A strong bond of Divine love bound us, and everyday would add to it from the unfathomable depths of her eternal love. She became the soul of my soul, my eternal companion.
Watching her one had the impression she was indeed a marvel from another dreamland. Child like in her demeanor, open, unassuming and so inviting with her pranks, one would be compelled to tune in with her and lose all artifice. And rediscover one’s childhood – the innocence of a child-like nature. For a split moment to be transported to another world, where everything is love and play – life became love and works became play.
Dearest Jet haunts our thoughts from daybreak to nightfall. There is always something to remember about her. She was so much a part of our life. More than anything, she set the example for all to follow. Jet was the symbol of contentment, the one ethical value that man battles to attain. One in a million might succeed. Man’s endless desires overpower him. Jet was eternally contented and happy wherever she was. She had not the least desire. Her only attachment was her love sublime!
She only knew her sacred duty was to watch over the affairs of the ashram and to follow and keep pace with us. To eat when she was fed. To sleep when we sleep. To be busy when we are busy. And share fully our life. If we are in she is in, if we are out she is out. Always to watch over us while enjoying nature. She enjoyed being in the open, close to nature. Never alone though, always in our company.
She enjoyed best sitting with us on a stone hillock and watching the bewitching play of colours and lights over the horizon at sunset. Beloved Jet was as silent and still as the magnificent simmering red ball, silently sinking and disappearing below the horizon. She knew it was prayer time and she would share the blessed moment with us.
When we stirred, she would stir. An unconditional willingness, because she understood that the main activity of the ashram was prayer, yoga and meditation. “Om Namah Shivaya” for her meant meditation. If perchance she heard it from the cassette player or from me, wherever she might be she would hurriedly come and settle down believing it was meditation time.
As a puppy, wherever I used to sit and meditate in the early hours of the day or any other time, she would coil herself on my lap for the whole time, to move only when I move. Sometimes for three to four long hours she would not budge. As she grew, she would go ahead and climb on my seat. Eventually each one had her own seat for meditation. Still, half her body would remain on my lap with her chin on my thigh and she would share my long meditation hours. At other times, she would crescent against my back and we shall thus meditate and share those blessed moments. During yoga, she would be around, sometimes trying her own variations of the postures I was performing. Some such photos have been included.
Jet was always bubbling with astounding energy. When it was playtime, she was in frenzy, jumping, frolicking, extremely excited and energetic. Yet she could be very serene, majestic and tranquil. Divinely discreet and silent! Although well in view at her vantage point, one might forget her presence. She was! It was all that mattered. She would be watching nature’s silent play and get engrossed. A pin drop would disturb the silence, but not she. A shadow will, but not Jet. At times she would come and settle lovingly, almost touching one yet so softly and furtively not to disturb even a fly. Her movements were extremely graceful, light and ethereal. A fairy from heaven!
She would sit still, admiring the scintillating heavens and the serene beauty of the starlit night. She was very responsive to her environment and very inquisitive too, much to my dismay. I had to provide answers to all her interrogative barks. She would not let go easily. She loved roaming long distances in company, discovering nature. She was happy in nature. She used to enjoy the open sky, the starry nights! The big bright full moon. The intriguing crescent that would vanish under her steady gaze while she would protest with inquisitive soft barks. Why should it be so? The full moon rising would arrest her attention with as much inquisitiveness.
She delighted in playing, always bouncing, energetic, keeping everyone on the move. There couldn’t be any better keep-fit exercises! She was so dexterous and intelligent that it was quite difficult to cope with her tricks and skill. Everyone was the loser with her. One might as well lose some kilos in her constant company! There was no better playmate than Jet when she was in mood. She would run round and round the trees and one had to race after her. If one gets tired she would come and tuck at one’s sleeve, thus inviting one to catch her! She would sometimes give a soft bite and plunge fast ahead, inviting one to follow after her and catch her, if possible.
She enjoyed swimming, romping, racing, and above all, a car trip would send her flying with joy, yelping mad. She would cast her regal glance around, thrusting her beautiful head out to feel those fleeting moments. She was the joy of many youngsters and adults alike. So many would excitedly wave, as she watched the world go by through the car windows. Some gasped with a mixed feeling of fright and fascination. Fondling parents, mostly mummies would raise their toddlers to have a good look at Jet. Some would drive level with our car to allow excited children have a good look at her.
Jet had all the patience of the world where food was concerned. She only took water or milk by herself. She got the habit of being fed and had to be fed till the end. She would sit patiently close to her own table, sweetly waiting to be served. She ate whatever she was served, never looking for more. She was always fed from a spoon; there was so much human appeal in her and one had the impression she was really the picture of a charming little girl!
She will never touch anything howsoever tempting and only eat whatever she was fed. She had no temptation, no greediness. She would thoroughly enjoy her food, but without the gusto of gluttony. Happiest when we could share the food, she was the very picture of greedlesness. She always ate only what was prepared at the ashram. She would not even sniff food coming from elsewhere. No junk food fan was she!
The first time lovely Jet came to us I put her to sit on a small low bench and offered her some fresh milk on a plate, holding it for her to drink. Until her last day she would never accept to drink her milk on her own. She enjoyed being fed. Nothing would she eat on her own! For all she had brought us from the sanctity of her divine abode, we were only too happy to be allowed this privilege.
Right from the beginning, Jet was 90% vegetarian. Her food was prepared first and she was the first to be fed. Although at the outset we did offer her non-vegetarian food following her vet’s advice and well-wishers’, Jet never liked non-vegetarian preparations. She would reluctantly eat. When still young, upon her vet’s advice some pieces of meat were added to her rice. Gradually she refused and turned complete vegetarian, feeding on vegetables, fruits and pulses and of course her milk. Certain sweetmeats she was very fond.
She enjoyed ripe mango, grapes, a sweet paw paw and quite a few others. Bananas, especially the dwarf ones, were her favorite. She would equally relish dried fruits or preserved pickled ones, grated carrots and coconuts. Peanut, sweet potatoes, deep fried cakes, crisp crunchy toast, well buttered! She found honey irresistible! She preferred plain milk or fresh water to non veg soup or gravy. She would also welcome a spoonful of ghee, plain or on her food. Above all, she loved sharing what we ate.
Jet was fond of fresh coconut. I would sometimes go through the ritual of separating the kernel from the shell and pouring the delicious water for my little sweetheart. At times she would sit and watch the whole process, enjoy her piece of nut and relish the water. Once I was alone in the kitchen removing the kernel. Jet was at the other end, lying on the terrace. I had no idea when she had changed her mind to come and quietly settle some distance away behind me. There is so much grace and lightness in her movement that one can hardly discern any sound. Unless she comes in close proximity, purring around, one can hardly guess her presence.
One nut was hopelessly dry. I tried my luck with a second, then a third when suddenly I heard a grunt of protest behind me that almost took me off my feet! She had heard the familiar noise and had come ahead in anticipation to enjoy. Apparently she had been waiting for her piece of nut and nectar. Three coconuts had been cut and still nothing!!! How could I be so inconsiderate! It was such a sweet exasperation that I burst out laughing. I showed her the empty nuts, so no ambrosia to savor! Then she understood the long delay.
To compensate I spread some honey on her piece of coconut. She was overjoyed and ate the piece with glee. I had opened the door wide for another novelty. The next day when I gave her a plain piece of coconut she swung her lovely head the other way in protest. The honey was missing. From that day onwards Jet had to be given her piece of coconut coated with honey! With the fresh stock of nuts Jet could once more enjoy her coconut water. I tried to give her the nuts without honey. Again the lovely head swung in protest. The coconut coated with honey had become her acquired right!
Jet knew each and every meditator. She had for everyone, a special welcome and response. She was the joy of a lifetime, an epitome of selfless love – endearing and loving for love’s sake. Everyone would be left marveling at her bubbling intelligence and energy. She was everyone’s pet as everyone was a pet with her. Jet used to welcome any newcomer with a thorough sniff. One had to stand still until this preliminary over! She would growl ferociously that would make any newcomer shudder with fear. In fact she wasn’t being nasty. Just doing her work! Only then would she allow anyone within the ashram compound. She would never bark at them afterwards.
Parting was the worst part of the day. She couldn’t reconcile to the fact that anyone has to leave after she had taken all the pains of the world to get to know and establish a relation with that person. Should anyone disappear from her sight to emerge later it was another love story. Every time it was the meeting of her life. All excitement, jubilation and relief, jumping and pouncing, yelping; she would be at a loss how to express the joy of reunion. Her magnificent long graceful tail would wag wide and far in full accord with her joyous mood.
This loving doll brought solace and hope to the flow of aggrieved souls in search of some grace in their disturbed and turbulent life. At her wondrous sight and presence they would momentarily forget their problems in all admiration for this lovely being. Those who dared come closer were keen to touch her, caress her and enjoy a paw shake. They were in wonder that such a huge creature was left free to roam in the rooms and in their midst. At other times she would sit close, very much absorbed in all that was going on.
She was sweeter than the sweetest sweet. Nothing on earth compares with the sweetness of her being. Lovable for love’s sake, ever ready to please and share with us in our turmoil, her life and memories remain our sweetest and most precious possessions. She revealed in her non-human garb such sterling qualities that would hint to divinity.
The German shepherd is considered to be fierce and dangerous, meant to be kept away, within a safe and reasonable distance to avoid trouble. Instead of violence and fierceness, Jet roamed freely among those who were regular callers in all meekness and playfulness. She was a marvel to those who had the privilege of a glimpse of her. Others, who got the chance to be close to her and share her company, be it for a few hours or a few seconds, were enthralled.
They were fascinated by her sweetness, her affectionate disposition, her loveliness, her magnificent long silky black fur, glowing with purity and cleanliness. In place of fierceness she displayed fearlessness and taught us this highest virtue. Jet was ever ready for any situation and guarded her premises with all the care and seriousness. One single bark was enough to keep unwary intruders well beyond her domain.
There was no violence, no anger in her nature. She radiated an ineffable love tinged with purity and perfection both within and without. Her non violence, harmlessness made her endearing to one and all. Young and old found solace in her imposing yet soothing presence. She was irresistible. She would tire anyone with her loving pranks, but she never herself got tired. For a brief moment they would forget their sorrows and tune in with her. Memorable moments, to be cherished a lifetime!
She never coveted anything new or that she felt was not hers. What was her own was her joy and she would keep everyone in mood, making all share in her spree and play. Once, a two year old boy happened to pick her brand new tennis ball. Dearest Jet noticed it from far. She eyed the poor toddler once or twice and could understand she may have to part from her new ball that bounced high and made her jump higher in all merriment.
She came floating as a feather, level with the little intruder and as softly caught her ball from his fist and moved away as feather-like to sit at a safe distance. The amazed toddler did not know whether to cry or to be afraid. It happened so swiftly, at lightning speed and so unexpectedly. The huge pet had come so close to him and yet he was still safe. He forgot he had to be afraid. He was more bothered that he no longer had the ball.
In her own subtle way, Jet taught the boy and his parents a lesson. One should not covet others’ belongings. Dear Jet felt it was a misappropriation. Rather than bark and create a pandemonium she wisely settled the issue. Finally the dear little boy felt elated to have been in so close proximity with such a huge pet with such huge fangs. He caressed her and made friends with her.
Jet had not come to learn but to set an example. If one behaves there is no problem with her. Any failure in expected norms would land anyone sprawling on the ground. Jet would anticipate any intruder’s move and before they even think of doing mischief. With lightning speed she would pounce close to them. It was enough to discourage even the more daring and leave them shaking on their legs in a state of utter shock. Very few would dare come near again.
Once a boy, some seven years old, accompanied his mother to have a good look at Jet. The mother had called before and having seen her, Jet would welcome her. Those coming for the first time were advised not to make any abrupt movements, Jet will stay quiet. Already the boy was in his small shoes at the sight of Jet, her huge size. Hesitatingly, he was taking every step. Watching his discomfiture, I spoke to Jet to put him at ease: “Come Jet!”, “Sit Jet!” etc. Dearest Jet came to sit lovingly by my side, but all the time she was all attention for the newcomer.
We had been speaking for some time and the boy seeing sweet Jet quiet was more at ease. He was watching intently while I was speaking to Jet so naturally and Jet was responding so perfectly. All of a sudden the boy stood up and in all amazement exclaimed out excitedly: “Oh Mama! Jet knows how to speak. Yoginiji speaks to her in English and she does everything! Mama, Jet speaks English!” He could not understand how a pet could ‘speak’ English. He was still in his astonishment. To add to his euphoria I asked Jet to give him a paw. Jet went and gave him a sweet paw-shake. He almost swooned in rapture!
Many meditators have related of their own experiences with Jet. If she happened to pass nearby or touch someone, that person would start having vibrations or visions and sweet sensations. A stroke of her tail or a mere rub could set one into a trance. There were many instances where Jet would lick someone where the latter was hurt or having some pain. That pain would disappear immediately! Stranger still was how Jet would know where exactly someone was having that ailment! Some meditators have related how some long standing skin ailment, not amenable to medical treatment, got cured after being licked by Jet. Having lived all the time with a Yogini, Jet was herself full of divine energy. No doubt, she was no ordinary pet. When she sat by her Yoginiji she looked truly like the lion of Mother Durga!
On February 4, 1994 tragedy struck. Human error, human negligence left us bereft of our little sweetheart. She survived a major surgery of hysterectomy for seven long hours; and was left to succumb under our helpless gaze. She had sustained an internal injury some five months before to one of her fallopian tubes. It remained undiagnosed in spite of all our efforts to bring her relief. It seemed fate was one step ahead, in a macabre musical chair with the loser paying with his life. Destiny was the winner. We lost our all in all!
Beloved Jet was a Yogini pet. The Ashram was isolated and altogether cut off from the outside world. She lived in seclusion and was chaste. She was neither sterilised nor crossed and never in the presence of any other pets. During her heat, rather than get aroused as would any other female of her breed, she would sit quietly. That was when sweet Jet was the quietest. She gave the picture of an adolescent wishing it never happened to her and for it to be over. Her injury probably coincided with her heat. The bleeding was attributed to natural causes and when it ceased before time it was brushed aside as menopause. She was old. Nine years was quite old!
In spite of her atrocious pain the dearest love will try to be her old self to the last, keeping pace with all my activities. Up to the last she shared my meditation. The last seven days were hell for her. Yet she would follow me to the bathroom and sit at her usual place until I have taken my bath. Twenty five years have elapsed. Nevertheless every day before taking my bath, in memory of her unbounded love, with all love and bubbling souvenirs, I still touch what is her reserved place. Her presence is strongly felt. With a pinch of heart I have my shower, missing her badly. At other times the mood is more cheerful, to have known her and to know she is waiting for us to play with her as of old when life was play and work was love.
She was put to rest within the Ashram precincts. Almost everyone came to pay a farewell visit to their dearest Jet so deeply regretted. To all she was sublime in her exalted pet apparel. The atmosphere was highvolted with waves of holiness. Fifteen hours after her last breath, she was still looking fresh as if in deep sleep and about to wake up any moment and start her pranks once more. According to natural laws her body with the long surgical incision should have become putrescent within two or three hours. Everyone attributed the miracle to her own and to her mistress’s spiritual power. She was no ordinary pet! Many went in trance spontaneously and got deeper meditation than usual.
The enthralling and spellbound atmosphere will prevail until the final hours. Dearest Jet spent her final hours in our meditation room, where one day earlier she underwent emergency surgery that would provoke the end of her lifespan. I had always wished that she would enjoy her full lifespan in our midst. Fate willed it otherwise. She left to return to us greater. None can rob her of her Spiritual Aura. There is no other way to explain the miracle of her amazing preservation. She was put to lie on ochre sheets and shrouded in ochre.
Keepsake from my Guru-Lord, I offered her the respect and love that befit a human-god in her final hour. She was put to rest four feet deep. The heart was heavy with the separation. She would be missed not for too long though. She will not stay buried. She is the eternal companion. As Divine keepsake, she is for Eternity. Her right place is amidst us. She had a Divine destiny that her body will remain intact. Personally, I was aware. It was a secret I shared with God for a long time. I was not inclined to put her to rest. In 1992 we were at Poste Lafayette; far and out of the way completely. I knew her time on earth was coming to an end and we had to find a permanent resting place for her. On her eighth birthday, November 4, 1992 we had moved to our present premises.
The heart was heavy. It looked nature itself was in mourning, bereft of its darling child. It was hard to know she was so close and yet so far. This is maya, delusion. Yet, Jet was no delusion. She was, she is and she will be! Yes, dearest Jet gave us a last bark before she finally expired. After seven long hours of silent struggle for survival she will place her both paws on my knees. I was relieved to see her moving at long last. I was overjoyed when she barked. Unconsciously I lay down close to her. We had spent several sleepless nights. I dozed off for a short while. When I opened my eyes, she was gone. We had waited in vain. Her last bark hadn’t been a farewell but to assure us of her eternal love. In her last moments, her thoughts were for us. Her bark was more of a protest. She was protesting. Don’t take me away, my place is with them! She would stay!
The body showed no sign of decomposition seventeen hours after she was no more. Then and there, everyone was convinced she was no ordinary being. The general conviction was that there will be no putrefaction in her remains. She had lived too pure a life. She was too imbued with Divine vibrations. At God’s behest, I had laid her to rest four feet deep. At His behest Jet would be once more among us. Yet there were five long months of separation! It was like sailing a rudderless ship.
Five days after Jet’s burial, cyclone Hollanda struck the island. The courtyard was flooded. The steps were under three feet water. We gave the impression of a small island surrounded with water. Beloved Jet was below seven feet of muddy water for a whole week. With a poignant heart, we gazed at the appalling scene. It was all too disheartening to imagine our dearest Jet lying in a pool of muddy water and we quite snug within four walls. Rain water from the whole uphill region gushed inside the courtyard. It was weeks before all the water evaporated.
Five long months would elapse before the Divine call. Wonder of wonders. On July 9, 1994 Jet’s body would be unearthed intact. She appeared fresh. Her shroud spotless clean. Not a stain of mud. No wear or tear, no stinking smell. Simply Jet, her familiar scent. No odour of decaying flesh spread. Her long silken fur was as shiny and as beautiful. Her beautiful tail as sweeping as ever. She had defied the physical laws that dead matter should putrefy. There was no vermin to pollute the sanctity of the place. Her vet Dr Bhuwanee was informed and he almost immediately came to share in the miracle. He has gracefully acquiesced to give his impressions on Jet.
She had to be left exposed to the vagaries of nature braving the scorching sun and rain for another eight days before we could secure permission from authorities to shift her indoors. Water had not soaked her, nor the mud soiled her. She is incorruptible! Both her body and shroud remained spotless clean. The shroud too has amazingly preserved its bright colour. It bears no trace of wear and tear. There was not the least hole nor the least damage anywise in her shroud. Often, a sweet fragrance wafted from her resting place.
While unearthing her, the sweet scent grew stronger as we were nearing her body. We were halfway in excavating the soil when it became strong. We got the confirmation that all along it had been emanating from our beloved Jet. Even up to now the place is peaceful and charged with Spiritual vibrations. Today it is as unpolluted as always. Beautiful green ferns grow naturally inside the hole. A small shrine has been built on the spot. It is a haven of peace and bliss.
I had received Divine initiation on a December 21. Dearest Jet came to me on a December 21. She was my most precious keepsake. She is my most precious keepsake and will remain my most precious keepsake from my Guru Lord!
It is not mere coincidence. December 21 coincides with the winter solstice when the Sun enters the first sign of the northern celestial hemisphere, Capricorn. The planet Saturn rules Capricorn. In ancient times and before the advent of Christianity it was celebrated worldwide as Saturnalia. Saturn rules the destiny of man. It was a way to pay respect to the ‘God Saturn’ for safety. It is still considered most auspicious for those understanding the influence of planets and stars. It has both spiritual and astrological import.
For over nine years, dearest Jet remained in my close company, constant as the Northern star and faithful as my own shadow. In the earlier stages I could never spare reading time. Once I was exhausted, I picked a random book for a pause. I was so impressed I started reading aloud. Jet was slumbering at the main door, on duty! She came rushing to me searching for the intruder. To whom could I be speaking? Who could have trespassed unknown to her? It took me some time to understand. She had never heard me read aloud nor seen me reading a book. I picked up the book again and started reading loud. She was relieved I was conversing with a book! She went back to her vantage position.
Another incident occurred the first time I played a recorded mantra cassette. She sat with her muzzle glued to the cassette, sending her paw inquisitively waiting when I would come out from it. I had to record something in her presence to make her understand how I entered the radio cassette. In the end, she knew that my voice was being used for others to meditate as we did! The moment I played the cassette she knew it was meditation time and will hurriedly come and sit in readiness!
Dear Jet knew how to spot satellites and would spend her time gazing at the planets and stars. She enjoyed watching the new moon crescent or the rising sun. She missed not having wings. She would sit under her favorite filao tree, helpless that she could not reach the many tiny birds hopping and chirping merrily above.
Sitting on the terrace facing the eastern horizon, the glorious rising sun was a fascination to her. What was not a daily feature arrested her attention. A clear sky will reveal the solar disc in all its splendour and Jet will prove up to the occasion. She will be in a flutter and will bark loudly in all excitement announcing the new phenomenon, according to her. We had to come and share the event with her otherwise look ahead to an upheaval. Whatever is not an everyday occurrence she must know the reason. I would have to find an explanation for her. She never gave the impression of being instinct bound or pre-programmed. She was ever ready to rack her brains better than many a layman!
We had three huge framed mirrors 6 x 4 feet for yoga purposes. How to cope with Jet and the mirrors? In the beginning, we veiled the mirrors for her not to gaze at her own reflection. Once, the covering sheet slipped to reveal our reflections. She stared. She barked and went to pounce on the intruder. I pulled her to me and made her understand it was our own reflection. She was at peace with the mirrors. The mirrors were safe! We could unveil all three of them. Gradually Jet could understand that the mirrors were used for reflection. She noticed that we could communicate through the mirrors without having to disturb ourselves. She would soon develop one of her favorite pass time: to watch every move without herself moving. She would settle in such a way to have full view of surroundings even up to the entrance gate, without herself being seen!
Since the gate reflected in the mirror she would use the same strategy to watch intruders or visitors at the gate. Much of the courtyard reflected in the huge 6 x 4ft mirror. She would lie down at her favorite place and have a good view of the surroundings. For over nine years Jet had been in close proximity with the huge mirrors without the least accident. On a radio program I had heard, scientists had managed to make a gorilla recognise itself in a mirror. I smiled. My bright Jet without being taught knew how to use the mirror for strategic advantage and identify everything reflected in the mirror. I wonder how many children under five will have as much common sense. Sweet Jet was superb. We used to communicate through the mirrors.
If ever I go for a round out, she never failed to be ahead of me. Shortly after the mirror incident, I went out. Jet did not budge. She was lying in a crescent with chin resting on the floor. She did not even turn her head to watch me go. I turned back several times to make sure she was not following me. I got worried she may be sick. Or she had enough of my company? She had become so much a part of my life. My heart missed a beat at the sad thought. I went my way and had time to return, she had not moved. When I climbed the steps I noticed her tail wagging softly. As I drew closer she got up suddenly and gave me such a welcome. Dear little mischievous Jet. She had been watching my all moves from the mirror. I was never out of her sight.
We tried to grow flowers and run a kitchen garden. Any bed of flowers or saplings was the ideal place for her to enjoy the coolness of freshly dug soil. She would flatten all the plants before they even had the time to raise their fragile necks. She would help us dig holes to grow potatoes, chouchou and ahead of everyone she will nuzzle them neatly to grow into handsome plants and creepers. The next day she would have dug them out and snugly settle herself in the soft soil, potatoes, chouchous lying close by. We tried a few times with the same disastrous results. We understood we had to choose between the garden and Jet. We chose Jet! The garden remained a remote dream.
Jet had the talent to ‘grow’ other things too. Her toys would disappear. Jet had buried them! Even after a month according to her whims she would remember and dig them out when she felt a fancy for them. She would go and sit at that spot daily, conscious that her toys are buried there. Once I left my two meters long, one meter forty wide lungi. It disappeared. It was a week I could not trace it back. It was impossible that Jet had eaten my lungi. She had the rodent trait of nibbling at clothes especially silk ones or paper. Even this she would do methodically always nibbling at the same corner!
Once I happened to be in the courtyard, she came flying and settled down as if to protect something very precious. Upon closer scrutiny, I noticed a tiny corner of my lungi popping out. It was a mighty prank. She was caught. She sweetly resigned herself to dig out my lungi. She had so neatly piled it in a snug hole she had dug herself. She would not part with my lungi so easily. She would collect it in a bundle and carry it herself inside the house. It is a pleasure to see her covering a hole. She has such natural expertise and precision, as all the grace while using her lovely muzzle. Jet in action is a wonderful experience whether at work or at play. She was marvelous, a pet child. Nature’s best gift to man.
Sweet Jet was very orderly and methodical. She had her treasure trove and any interesting thing would go in her treasures. Whatever items were missing in the house had gone to add to her treasures. All neatly piled with love and appreciation. They were her things! First the trove had to be discovered then the treasures. It could be outside the house too in some comfortable niche of her choice.
Whenever I did some stitching, I used to work on the floor. She would be the happiest. She would settle over part of my work, her way of sharing everything. Anything absent mindedly left lying here and there will find its way in her stomach with lightning speed. Nobody knew when. Only when something is missing one can guess its whereabouts.
Laundering became a hectic task with dear mischievous Jet around. It was not easy to keep pace with her tricks and playfulness. She would sometimes pinch things one by one in her muzzle and pile them away. She played happily with the soap water sending her paws in the water, confident she is being of great help to me. As a puppy she would pinch socks from the low drying line and nibble at them.
There were vast pasture lands. We had a few goats, does and kids. Dearest Jet enjoyed playing with and watching the kids. She could never reconcile to the fact that they should be grazing and not have a table and plates for their meals as she had. I used to sense her dilemma and could only smile. She would follow them for closer scrutiny. One day I caught her watching them in despair and the next moment I saw her biting frantically at the leaves. Jet wanted to learn grazing! She must have been one year old then! I roared with laughter. She got very shy and came running to me that I should not laugh at her. If she could graze I would have less trouble to feed her! Watching keenly the suckling kids or calf she would want to go and suckle too to our great dismay. The suckling mother was not willing to share with her. They were aggressive. To appease Jet, some milk had to be stolen for her. She preferred goat milk to cow milk. She relished fresh milk rather than powder milk or pasteurized milk.
We kept some runner hens to have fresh eggs and cheaper too for Jet when she was a puppy for her safe growth. When there were not freshly lain eggs she would not accept the commercial one from the shop! Honey she loved, but one brand alone. Semolina had to be roasted and prepared in her presence otherwise she would not eat. She loved the togetherness and the ritual. Once someone brought some roasted semolina for her. When it was cooked she did not eat. The pleasure of sitting along and watching it being roasted was not there!
I had an awful hectic time before Jet could understand our own farm animals should be left in peace. She would chase after the cows, goats and hens around the building or long distances. Also, I learnt many things, for instance I would discover cows are fast runners and high jumpers too. Anyway if they were not fast by nature Jet made ours fit for marathon races. It was a most funny sight whether with the poor cows, goats or hens. She would be running after the poor lot and I would be running after her to pacify. Gradually she made friends with them. We used to sit together within reasonable distance giving the impression of an important summit conference! The cows, the goats and the hens were all like pets.
There was an excellent team spirit among them. With a pet wishing to graze and cows that are munching bones or slippers. Suffice that Jet should leave one bone lying around, one of the cows will promptly appropriate it and start biting at it merrily for hours. We had landed with carnivorous cows! The goats too will find a lesser piece of bone and keep busy. It seems they all had grinder jaws! Every day that dawned brought us new surprises that left us nonplussed!
If not bone they would find a good size gravel and start biting at it. Jet had a talent to always have one between her jaws. She was still young, perhaps two years old. There was always the risk of suffocation. To put an end to the dilemma, we bought an artificial bone for her. Her first bone was a real fascination. She would display it in every way and feel proud about it, wishing that we share in her play. When I happened to be doing some yoga, lying down on my back, she found no better spot than place it on me and lying or sitting close, kept on playing. It was her way to express her appreciation.
It must have been in 1987, during cyclonic weather. Part of the land was flooded. At certain places water level had risen to above four feet. The building was surrounded by water. Water level had risen above window level in the goat shed where scores of goats were locked in. They risked drowning. Fortunately, there were new cement bags piled there. They had climbed over them for safety. Fearing that the water level may rise higher, they had to be evacuated. I was already waist deep in water trying to help and lead the animals to safety.
In the beginning, the goats were afraid of the water. We had to lift them one by one and take them to safety on dry land. In the meantime Jet was paddling merrily in the water. She was having a swim. This reassured the goats and they all started swimming to safety on their own. Dearest Jet as her Vet so nicely put it “has the ability to tackle any obstacle.”
Although at Poste Lafayette we were opposite the coastal road, we had never taken Jet to swim. Much later when she had some affliction, hydrotherapy could be the ideal remedy. We took her to the sea. She enjoyed swimming. She proved an excellent swimmer. It never occurred to her in the beginning that I might be a good swimmer if not a natural one. She could not understand why only my head was moving out of water. She would come to save me.
When sweet Jet had her hip problems, her vet wanted to know how big was her kennel. I told him four rooms. He looked at me surprised, thinking it was a joke. “Jet has no other kennel” I explained. She has always been with us free to roam anywhere. We are inseparable.
She will have to be confined to the minimum of space to allow for maximum rest. We tried to isolate her in a corner of a room. She kept protesting. It made her worse. She was finally left free. She did recover! Up to the age of three she used to roam freely. She did not even have a chain. Much later after her recovery, as a precautionary measure to prevent her exerting herself she was temporarily chained out of doors. To think that pet owners keep their pets chained the whole day or in an undersized kennel with hardly any space to move. How can animals be kept in such shocking captivity? At first she did not welcome the chain. Later chain meant a car trip. The moment any one of us will pick the chain she will gyrate with joy anticipating the outing.
When travelling, sometimes we had to cross very busy roads. The first time it was fair day. Large crowds were gathered at the market place and on the main road. We had to slow down, only to the wonderment of people around. Some gasped with awe, instinctively moving a few steps back. The more daring would come closer to the car windows to have a good glimpse of Jet seated on my lap, the picture of a charming little girl.
For a while buyers and sellers forgot their bargaining, to stand and stare at Jet. The boisterousness of the place came to a standstill. Some caught at each other’s arm in alarm, but still keen to have a good look at her enormous size and beauty. Dearest Jet silently watched her admirers, some awe stricken, others extremely happy to have seen her. Excited children clapped their hands in merriment. Wherever we crossed through large crowds Jet received the same admiration mixed with awe and joy.
I remember something amazing as we both sat on the open terrace. All of a sudden she got up and pounced. I never could spot anything. All that I know I saw Jet floating through the air. She was not racing, as would someone of her species. She was leaping through the air. I had the impression I was watching Goddess Durga, the Mother Universal’s lion or tiger soaring through the air.
Jet had an impressive, deep, powerful bark. It was enough to keep stray dogs far. Whenever she barked it was a pleasure to listen to the magic sound. Even nature would vibrate in unison with her powerful bark. Her barking still finds echo in the deep recesses of our minds. As a puppy, she did not know barking. It was more of a yelp. Much later she would once, out of the blue, bark mighty loud that would take her by surprise. She was under the shock for a while trying to digest the herald of her adulthood. Before, whenever there was a visitor, intruder or she sensed danger, she would promptly climb on my lap first then yelp in protest!
Jet was superb, majestic. Her long mane like fur around the neck gave her the impression of wearing an eternal garland. It added so much to her beauty. She was extremely graceful in her gait. It was a pleasure watching her whether swimming, sitting, sleeping, walking or roaming. She was extremely playful yet very much on the defensive; at the least doubtful movement she was ready to pounce, she would switch from one mood to the other with lightning speed.
Everyone seeing her would marvel at her beauty. To all she was unique. So many persons, who themselves might have had so many lovely pets, were keen to have a puppy from Jet. They found her so much out of the ordinary. “Jet is a yogini pet”, was the legendary reply. “What a waste!” would everyone moan! Jet knew she was not a body, howsoever beautiful. She was never body conscious or under the control of the senses. Otherwise all her reactions would have been very different.
Her meekness during her heat is proof enough she was of no ordinary mettle. I still recall her vet’s astonishment when I told him Jet is sweetest and quietest during this time. According to instinct, they can leap over four feet high walls in search of a mate. For me to be all astonishment in turn!
“What do you do when Jet is in heat?”
“Nothing”, came the reply, “What have I to do?” They thought I was joking. They could not believe she could stay without being crossed. As a yogini pet she was never sterilised.
Dearest Jet was an embodiment of chastity, the one virtue that humans find hard to practice and will find any pretext to escape. During her whole life span, some ten years she was never crossed. In fact it never occurred that it had to be so. She was never in the company of any other pets. During her heat there was no disturbance or fidgetiness in her. Even her vet would not believe that she had never been crossed. Only later when she had to undergo an operation for internal injury did they find Jet was still a virgin. They were dumbfounded. It had never even crossed their mind as veterinarians that a ten year old female of her species could ever be a virgin!
Sweet Jet was a monument of virtues; those virtues that would take a human to God realization. She was divinity in her animal garb. Her passing away twenty five years ago would confirm her divinity and holiness. Her body remained intact and to date is still intact. This year she would have been thirty five. She could not have survived, the average life span of her species being eighteen to twenty years.
The miracle of her incorruptibility has galvanised our faith and belief in her deep love and divine destiny. As one meditator so aptly put it, “There has never been in the whole world another pet who was so loved. There is none. There will never be one!” Jet was unique. Her life was unique. Her destiny was unique. She is special. Her miracle is evidence enough of her special mettle. Heaven-born she came for our spiritual upliftment. She radiated Divine vibrations. As she roamed freely among meditators she would give a boost to their meditation.
Dear sweet Jet so full of life to the last. The little flame of hope that shone through our darkest days. From her we drew courage to fight on. We were safe in her care. With her around we lived in an open house. Even up to now except for the main doors downstairs everything remains open, still in her care.
Dearest Jet came to me as a sacred keepsake from my Guru Lord. Affectionate and friendly she remained my inseparable, steadfast and most precious companion for nine long years and three months sharing my life and meditation, shadow-like. One soul in two bodies!
She came for an eternity and her spirit permeates the very air of the place. She remains our pride and most precious possession. She bestowed upon us Divine grace, solace and the status of a well established Ashram on this tiny speck of an island, lost in the vast ocean. She is the very spirit of the Ashram, its life force. She is physically present while her spiritual presence is a greater reality. She is forever linked to the Ashram’s destiny….. We love you Jet! Om Namah Shivaya!

We did not know that pets had to be vaccinated regularly. For some six months Jet never had any vaccination. Drowned by our immediate turmoil it never crossed our minds. Later she will have her personal vaccination card!
It was sheer coincidence that brought Dr A.M.S.Abdoola’s path to cross ours. A true lover of animals he was very much impressed by Jet’s rare beauty and exceptional intelligence. He adopted Jet and followed nine long years of perfect relationship. Jet was never chained in his presence. Dr Abdoola had been of the greatest help to us in keeping Jet in perfect health and general condition.
In the course of time we shall make the acquaintance of Dr V.Bhuwanee, a colleague of Dr A.M.S.Abdoola. Dr Bhuwanee was a most dedicated man and professional. His contribution in Jet’s upbringing has been as considerable and precious. We can never forget in our worst moments how he was God sent. I am sure Jet will join us to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr A.M.S.Abdoola and Dr V.Bhuwanee.

I came to know Jet, a strikingly beautiful German shepherd, since her early age by pure coincidence. I became her personal vet. In the course of time I developed very good relationships both with her owners and her.
Of extremely high intelligence and born with a flair, Jet was very sincere in her behaviour. She had the ability to tackle any obstacle.
She understood English very well and had excellent response to her owners. It is sad that she has not left any progeny as in my career I have never come across such an intelligent pet.
Living in an Ashram, she had never been crossed nor sterilized.
- A.M.S.ABDOOLA
Jet, a German shepherd was referred to me by a senior colleague. I took it as any other routine case. She had not been responding to treatment and had been condemned. My diagnosis was paraplegia secondary to canine distemper. Her hind legs were affected in a serious viral disease affecting the brain and the spinal cord. Jet was lucky to have only partial affliction of the spinal cord. Still her complete recovery was a puzzle to me.
The second time I treated her was when she suffered from a neck tumor. The only treatment for a tumor is excision. It was refused. I had recourse to unconventional treatment which surprisingly worked. She was cured with not even a scar left. I had in fact infected the tumor with a wick. It melted and disintegrated completely. Looking back I realize it was a miracle.
Another time Jet had been suffering from a stomach perforation. She had been passing tarry stools for over a week. She vomited almost a liter of altered blood and collapsed. Again, she was condemned. I was informed late in the case. Surprisingly she recovered completely. In the normal course of events these cases succumb.
A surprising thing, Jet never used to respond to ordinary conventional veterinary treatment. We always had recourse to a higher level more in keeping with human treatment for her. Only then would she respond. Very much later, I would come to realize its import.
For her last operation, I still remember Jet was under the care of a colleague. I had just returned from abroad. My colleague had been asking me advice on a case and I had been advising him for quite some time, unaware he was treating Jet. Finally I had to perform the operation together with him. The diagnosis was a case of pyometra, pus in the uterus. What was supposed to be thumb size had swollen to the size of an arm. It had to be removed. It was then that we realized Jet had never been crossed. We had not believed when we were told. She had not been sterilized either. It had never even crossed our mind that a female of her species could ever be a virgin. She was running her tenth year. We had wrongly believed the infection had resulted after she had been crossed. In the course of surgery we would find out the injuries causing the infection.
The injuries could have been sustained some five to six months earlier. The operation was successful and I handed the case over to my colleague confident that Jet was in good hands. Unfortunately, I have to admit there was negligence and Jet left us seven long hours after surgery. She had in fact recovered surprisingly well. She even started to bark. Surprisingly, because she had been on glucose water and bananas only, for over two weeks. She had undergone a major surgery, hysterectomy. The uterus was a bag of pus, gangrenous already. There was pus in the cavity. Septicemia had set in. Any other ordinary pet or human would long have succumbed. To be able to survive the surgery was itself a miracle. I left her confident in her imminent recovery. I even advised to give her soup as she would be hungry and needed rapid rehydration therapy. Unhappily I did not consider the factor of human error. It cost Jet her life.
After five months Jet was unearthed. I was informed. I came to the Ashram at midnight to witness the miracle. I still remember the place where she had been laid to rest was so clean and pure. Only then I realized what a privilege it had been to treat Jet. There were neither vermin nor odor. I could not believe my eyes. I had never thought Jet to be so great!
When I mentioned the miracle to my boss, he would not believe it. He thought I was joking! When he realized I was serious, he decided to come and see for himself. He came with three other colleagues. It was a phenomenon beyond their understanding, unique!
Jet’s body was put in an aquarium in formaldehyde solution to comply with sanitary laws. Again, Jet would defy natural laws. Her body kept floating when it should have sunk to the bottom, swollen with the solution. Finally, two padded lead bars were used to pull down her body in an attempt to keep her submerged.
I feel elated to have treated Jet, she was real special. We were prepared to go out of our way to do things for her. Now I understand why Jet never responded to veterinary treatment. Always we had to go a step higher and have recourse to human treatment for her.
All the experts I brought to visit Jet were perplexed. Nobody could explain the unique phenomenon. Words cannot express my thoughts. I can only say God is Great! DR. V. BHUWANEE
EXCERPTS FROM MEDITATORS’ TESTIMONY
“I have not known Jet when she was performing her Divine drama on the world stage. Yet I cannot say I do not know her. Sometimes I feel I have known her since timeless time as any Soul knows God the Absolute. For she is the ideal which any sincere devotee aspires to! Such selfless love, that even when the limitations of her pet lifespan over, she is still here, incorruptible. As inseparably present as ever for her mistress not to miss her. Really she is the ideal Eternal Companion. The one who transcends all limitations, to be where the loved one is. To fulfill her promise never to part even if death comes in between!
As faithful as Lord Veer, Hanumanji, she was ever ready to protect her mistress where human presence would have been useless, when she most needed her in the wilderness and immensity of Poste Lafayette. She discarded her body when her physical presence was no longer needed, to come back as the Spirit she was, to preside over the destiny of the Ashram and still protect her mistress without the latter having to attend to her. She had to simplify matters knowing her mistress has little time even for herself. She is there, greater, but still her Darling Jet. Her Darling Pet, yet needing little care.
Jet is the living example of all the moral virtues and moral disciplines. She was chastity in pet form! She was purity in humility! She is love unconditional!
Her animal form never made her animal. Even her vet testifies he had to have recourse to human medication for her. It was but logical that she has reached where even lifelong renunciants, Sadhus and Yogis dare not dream of!
It is known God sends His Angels to help humans. But Angels only have wings. Jet in her animal garb had fangs, claws and a stentorian bark. No one dared move with her around. Everyone stood in awe in her presence, far or near!
Her photographs are more real than life itself. Her expressions are sublime, ethereal, hinting to her belonging to the highest spheres. She is the living proof of Vedanta’s philosophy of Oneness: that the One and same God dwells in human, animal or plant. She has proven that selfless love is the path to God realization.
The miracle of her Mahasamadhi was a turning point in my life. I got mesmerized by the phenomenon. I came to visit her and took along the one certainty: that Salvation is here for anyone and everyone. Whatever our past we should not lose hope. Jet in her non human garb could reach God. We have the privilege of the three boons, Human form, Desire for spirituality and a Genuine Guru. There is no reason why salvation cannot be ours! We can emerge victorious over our lower nature and uplift ourselves to our Divine nature. For Gods we are born, as brutes we live and as beasts we die. Jet is a challenge to our human form. Even as She is so can we be!
It is no use regretting that I have not known her during her lifetime. I have known her greater! She calls when the time comes! To live life as living Gods! Jet you are ever more here and better placed to help me fulfill my heart’s desire. The waiting alone is mine. Until I can see, touch and feel you as living let it be my only dream.
Beloved Jet, our ideal, our conscience, our protection, our inspiration, our love, our Heart, the soul of our soul are you! We shall meet Jet! In the eternal garden of the Lord! Om Namah Shivaya!” ********
“Dearest Jet was my next door neighbor for two years. I used to admire her from far while she sat majestic on the terrace or was gracefully strolling in the Ashram precinct. Only once I crossed the huge German shepherd pet. Jet looked so fierce and yet she gave me a paw and a kiss that sent me in the seventh heaven. Very much later I realized she was heaven born.
Yoginiji’s inseparable companion she will sit with her during satsang or initiation. She was ever present with Yoginiji as the centre of her life. She was everything to Yoginiji and Yoginiji was everything to her. Seeing her sitting snug and happy with Yoginiji one could not help recalling the Mother Universal with her lion.
No human child ever received the amount of care and attention she was privileged with. Admiring her sterling qualities, I became more human and considerate towards the several pets we had. They had always been kept in leash while sweet Jet, I noticed was ever free to share Yoginiji’s life in the midst of meditators, during meditation or satsang. She was ever present in Yoginiji’s life.
Five months after her passing away when her body was found intact I realized her immaculate purity and divine nature. I always thought being in the constant company of Yoginiji had made her so. Only then I realized her nature itself was divinity. Rather than foul smell, sweet fragrance filled the air around her when she was being unearthed. Even now this special fragrance is strongly felt every now and then. Jet is the embodiment of Love. She is a great lesson in Love.”

“Unforgettable Jet, we have always viewed you as a special divine creature because you are indeed a great gift of god. Being in your vicinity was an awesome pleasing experience. There was always a heavenly and peaceful atmosphere when you were around. Jet, you were far from being an ordinary pet. Your presence was equal to that of an angel.
It was unbelievable to think that you departed. Your absence was greatly felt. The Ashram practically lost its life. However, there was another memorable moment when you were unearthed. You proved that you are not of the ordinary. You defy the very basic laws of nature. Jet is unquestionably a miracle who transgresses fundamental laws. We will always remember the joy prevailing since you have been taken inside the Ashram. Your divine presence just adds to the sanctity of the Ashram.
The mere thought of your divine self does give us strength and courage to tackle any dilemma. Jet, you symbolize Love. You remind us that there is a God who compassionately helps us in all our endeavors. Thank you Jet, we will always remember you. We are grateful to have shared some years of our life with you. Great is God and great is His creation. We will always feel your presence. You possessed beauty without vanity, strength without insolence, courage without ferocity. All virtues of man minus his vices. We love you Jet!”

“I regret not having known Jet during her lifetime. Otherwise I would have had the privilege of being with her and playing with her as other luckier meditators. Yet, Jet had been staying hardly two kilometers away from my place. It is only in 1995 that I came to know about her, more than a year after her passing away. Later I had the opportunity of viewing her on videocassette. She was really a superb and wonderful pet.
It is Jet who brought me to her Ashram. She knew my needs and shortcomings and so she gave me shelter at Yoginiji’s lotus feet. I should not regret not having known her alive, because Jet is more spirit than physical. She came for the spiritual uplift of the fallen and seekers of truth.
For me Jet represents purity, divinity, hope, courage, loyalty, fearlessness and much more. Though she has passed away, she has proved her divine nature. What better proof than her undecayed body, a miracle! She is herself a miracle and miraculous are her ways of showering her Divine Grace on those willing to tread the spiritual path. I am eternally indebted to dearest Jet. May she ever guide me! “ *********
“My keen interest to see the miraculously undecayed body led me to the Ashram. This first visit was the stepping stone of various changes in my life. In Hinduism all the Gods are worshipped together with their pets. Similarly, Jet came on earth to help Yoginiji in her Divine mission. She is the eternal companion of Sadgurumata. She symbolises selfless love, devotion, fidelity and purity. The fact that her body did not decay proves her Divinity and her Purity. I cannot but rejoice at the thought that I have received the grace of Jet who is constantly guiding my step.”

“I never had the chance to know Beloved Jet yet it seems I have always known her. I can visualize her playing, jumping all along the long rocky lanes. The photos at the ashram are proof of her greatness! Jet was more than a pet. I felt her presence while her shrine was consecrated. The Divine vibrations were strong. Every time I enter the shrine the same feeling prevails. For me Jet is not dead. She will always remain alive in our hearts.”
“In spite of her not having a human form, dearest Jet was very disciplined. She was also full of love, ever ready to share with everyone. Surprisingly, being often in her presence, I was acquiring some of her disciplined manners. The love she bestowed on me was of tremendous help. When I badly needed support, Jet was among the few who were ready to help. She would greet me with all warmth of love, keep me company and give me attention wholeheartedly. She gave me the greatest support in her own way to bring my studies to a successful end. Without constant support, I do not think I would have been able to pursue my studies.”
“Dearest Jet was special and adorable in all ways. She had her own special way to greet each and every one of us. During meditation whenever I used to dance she would bark in tune, a way to share the experience. Whenever I sought Yoginiji’s blessings she would give me her blessing too, touching me softly with her paw. Even now, I feel her presence… I sometimes get her scent as if she is there. When she left us I did not feel any sadness. For me she was and would always be present.
Today things are different. She has proved her Divinity. Since her miracle she has strengthened our faith in God, in Yoginiji and in meditation. It did not come as a surprise to us. We always knew she was special. She is a challenge to us all. She proves that Yoginiji is Divinity in human form. It is up to us to understand her importance in our lives. If only Jet could speak she would have had many marvelous things to tell about her life with Yoginiji. Just as we cannot think of Lord Shiva without his snakes or Lord Vishnu without his thousand head snake couch, so are Jet and Yoginiji inseparable. I cannot think or imagine either of them one without the other.
I feel Yoginiji and Jet are my highest protection as recent events have proved. I escaped death in tragic circumstances. Wherever I go I always carry a small photo of Jet. She is my good luck charm.”
“I had always looked to Jet with a sense of awe and respect. She was like a protecting mother to me. I used to call her my little mother. Yoginiji and Jet were inseparable. Even during satsang she would sit near her. Whenever Yoginiji would raise her hand to give blessings she too would extend her paw to complete the act. She was extremely beautiful and graceful.
She was no ordinary pet. Those suffering some affliction were spontaneously healed if Jet happened to lick them or touch them. At times during meditation she would come and place her paw on my hands. It was a special sensation. My meditation would be as special. Even today her presence is strongly felt. When Jet left us, I missed my little mother and cried a lot. I was bedridden for a six week complete rest when I got the news. Against medical advice, I came to wish her farewell. When I returned later, all my ailments had disappeared for ever. It is now years, I have never been bedridden again for any reason.
It was an extraordinary event. The atmosphere was filled with spiritual vibrations. Those present were going in trance and for each it was an exceptional experience. Later when her body was disinterred a special perfume wafted within reasonable proximity. Even today, during meditation I get the same fragrance which I would inhale to my soul content. I do not miss her anymore because she has come back to us, greater still!”

“I still remember myself bending towards dearest Jet to have a good look at her. I fearlessly bent towards her and smiled. I felt she smiled back in her own way at the little girl I was, barely seven; she was seven too! Jet with the eyes of an adult. She was fully grown and huge. The child was impressed by the huge German shepherd with the impressive large sparkling brown eyes. Still the child was a little, just a little bit scared too, when she reasoned about it, glancing at the massive body. The big German shepherd had indeed big pointed threatening white fangs! Her barking was so loud, with me jumping so high! There was a peal of laughter. I tried my best to laugh too but in vain. I could not. I was dumb with fright.
All was well and running smoothly until Jet suddenly fell very sick. With all conviction, I said she will be well again. Only to learn that beloved Jet was not well at all. She has slept and would never wake up again…
We went to say farewell to this lovely exceptional pet. Yoginiji allowed me to kiss her. I gave Jet a kiss, the first one, the last one… I missed her in my own way. Much later, I would understand she was no ordinary pet. She was much more. To those who really knew her, she was really special.
When someone near and dear, especially a much loved one is no more we often feel strongly the living presence. It is the same with Jet. Indeed all those who really cared for her can still feel her presence strongly. In times of need she comes to our mind as if to remind us that death is only a physical phenomenon; that she is very much alive and lives in our hearts…Which reminds me of a beautiful sentence: “Death is only the beginning…”

“Our beloved Jet, this beautiful German Shepherd, always sat majestically next to Yoginiji. With an impressive caliber she was ready to confront anyone who dared approach Yoginiji.
Yoginiji gave back as much affection. Always together almost inseparable, we never saw one without the other.
Now that Jet is no longer, like a magnet I am attracted to her ‘Samadhi’. Every time I stand near her, the energy emanates from her and envelops me!”

“I was eleven years old the first time I saw Jet, she four, but of such large size to make you shiver to the bone. Years have passed since this beautiful meeting!
Jet is a being out of the ordinary. There was always something very special about her. She possessed an extraordinary sense of awakening. She has this human side that many of us do not possess. She took a rare pleasure in playing with the meditators from time to time. If someone threw one of her toys at her, because she had several, she would grab it on the flight and bring it back.
She knew how to obey Yoginiji’s orders like a child. For example, words like, “Sit Jet,” “Run Jet,” “Jump Jet,” “Come Jet,” “Let us go Jet,” “Give paw, Jet” were very familiar to her, and she was performing to our great wonder.
She never left Yoginiji, never. She ate every fruit imaginable. She participated in everything that was going on, listened to all Yoginiji’s discourses. She only lacked speech…”

“As a ten-year-old girl, I was very scared when we first met. Jet was of impressive build. Jet was the shadow of Yoginiji. At first glance her large size frightened even the most valiant. But once she made friends, she was adorable.”
Frankly, I cannot explain the greatness of our dear Jet, this magnificent German shepherd. All I know was that she was really beautiful. She loved playing like a child. It was a huge pleasure if she ever sat on my legs. What fascinated me the most was mealtime. She never ate by herself. She was fed like a small child, with a spoon, bite by bite.

“We knew Jet for exactly six years. We can say that Jet is only physically a dog. To understand her really it is absolutely necessary to have known her. And we had this exceptional privilege!
She perceived everything and understood everything. For example, when a stranger first arrived at the ashram, Jet would sniff him/her well before welcoming. If the person were of good faith, Jet remained silent. Otherwise Jet barked with all her might. At first glance the size of Jet frightened everyone. But once friendship established it was done! She possessed a sense of extraordinary awakening, not given to everyone.
On each visit to the ashram the meditators sought Jet to greet her. There was, there is, and there will always be a Divine bond between Yoginiji and Jetty. It is a communion of perfect souls. Jet was maintained in a way beyond imagination. When Jet left us, we felt the emptiness. But a few months later Jet manifested herself in a unique way, which defies science, time, and the laws of nature. Her body remained intact. This means that our dear Jet is always physically present at the ashram.
Between Jet and Yoginiji everything is mystical. In conclusion we can say that as far as Jet and Yoginiji are concerned, all meditators are always at the starting point and the mystery remains. Dead means the end. But Jet testifies to the opposite. Spiritually, as scientifically, our beloved Jet, the German shepherd of the ashram has indeed transcended karmic law to symbolize the Divinity in its entire splendor. Thus, she transcends creed, race and color, going from this physical form to Holiness, defying all natural and scientific laws.
Faced with this reality, willingly or unwillingly, one becomes a witness of greatness. Full of humility one has to bow! This is the Divine message of nature.”

“OM JET! For those who have known Jet it is impossible to forget the physical perfection and behavior of this mesmerizing German shepherd. In an animal garb capable of being close to the Guru, existed a celestial being. Her arrival on a December 21, better symbolized her incarnation. For almost ten years she shouldered by her permanent presence the Guru. Also, helping the disciples on their search for the Absolute.
After many months of silent suffering, Jet left her body. The miracle of her preservation in a soggy ground reminds unbelievers of the Divine message of those perfect beings who come to this phenomenal world to suffer on our behalf in order to save us.
Those who have reached the summit of their evolution see in everything only Divine perfection; there is no difference no matter what the appearance. For others still on the path, you have to sing “Guru Om, Jet Om” to merge into the One without a second, the Indivisible Absolute.”

“JET, Like the jet plane whose name you bear and which crosses the sky fast as a lightning bolt, you passed through our life so fast, too fast. Who were you? A Creature of God like us but certainly also a little more than us!
You who could not become dust again. You who like a modern Moses knew how to tame the waves. Where will you be when I go to my Father’s abode? Will I be able to recognize you? It doesn’t matter, because I know you’ll recognize me, because you licked my cheek during my initiation into meditation.”
